Project #3

For my third project, I made a website as if I were a teacher and the site was for my student's use. Here is the form---

Target Audience: My future Health students
Technology: Making my own class website
Learning Activities: In order to learn how to make my own website, I will follow tutorials online.
Product: I will make my own class website that my students can use throughout the semester. I will then post a link to my website on my blog.

Grading:
5 points: Make a website with at least four links
5 points: Successfully embed a calendar and unit plans for the semester
3 points: Use different formats (web page, list, etc.)
2 points: Well organized and easy to follow

Semester as a whole

Overall, this semester has been pretty good for this class. I definitely learned a lot of new cool things, especially from google. However, I think that although they are very cool, I will never use them again. I don't have a lot of time to surf the web or add all new apps or whatever. I was very intrigued by them but it's not anything that I'm going to continue to use. The class itself was laid out pretty well. I liked the weekly things to do, but I thought the discussions got a little monotonous and I felt like I was writing the same thing for each different discussion. It seemed like busy work for me. Other than that, the class was pretty good.

Project #3 Idea

I am still not exactly sure what technology I am going to use. I am going to work on doing some more research this week and see if something comes up that intrigues me. Hopefully I can come up with something good!

PROJECT #2

Using Skype

I use skype on a pretty regular basis whenever I go out of town. It is a great way to talk to my husband, but be able to see his face. Looking at someone while talking is always better than just hearing their voice. It is a great thing for us and we use it a lot!

Project #2 Idea

For my second project, I want to make a video dealing with a health topic since that is what I am going to be teaching. I have decided to do a movie on the six basic nutrients that the body needs and then give a brief description of each. I think I will do the information and then show a picture of a food that has that nutrient. Hopefully the project goes well!!

Collaborative Tools

This week's activities were pretty amazing to me. The whole wiki concept is so great and I had no idea that anything like that was around! As far as the sidewiki, I think that it's a great idea, but I'm afraid that a lot of people are just going to write bogus stuff. There is already so much false information out there and now that any Joe Schmoe can add whatever he wants, many people may take that as fact instead of fable. The concept is great, I just hope that it is taken seriously.

Project #1

For my project, I decided to do the iSAFE certification because I am studying to be a teacher and I thought it would be very applicable. I was very surprised as to how informative the whole thing was. I won't lie, it was pretty long and I wish I would have split it up more rather than just doing it all in one sitting. However, it was great to learn about all the resources, but also the dangers of the internet. I really enjoyed all the personal stories and while they were scary and sad, they were a great learning lesson to me and I will be able to use those for my future students. I was extremely intrigued by the second section about personal safety and all that was incorporated with that. Also, I found it very informative about the cyber predator information and the way they think and act. I know that I will be able to teach others about that and the importance of knowing what to expect. Overall, the whole thing was great and I really enjoyed listening to all the modules.

Social Networking

There are so many sites out there now days that deal with social networking. The one I am most familiar with is Facebook. It is fun to use to keep in contact with old friends and family that normally I wouldn't stay close with because of distance. It is also nice to add other students in my classes and stay informed on what's going on. I think a lot of times it can get out of control because a lot of people just add others not even knowing who they are, but just knowing they go to the same school. I think this is a little ridiculous but in the end, I enjoy Facebook every once in a while for contact reasons.

Copyright

Watching the videos and reading all the information, it was very interesting to find out more information about copyright. The biggest thing that I found was the fact that if I personally produce something, it is automatically mine and I don't necessarily need to send something in to make it copyright official. Although that provides more security, especially in the court, it was just interesting to learn more about the details that I had never learned about before.
